Nuclear energy, the arguments against it and in favour of it.

Against - it's dangerous and limited, thus we shouldn't make our societies dependent on it. This argument has led several western countries, including Sweden, to put a halt on development of new nuclear plants.

In favour - It's the only energy source that can replace fossile fuels, such as oil, gas and coal in the shorter perspective. It is the ban on new reactors, leaving us with old outdated reactors, that has made nuclear energy dangerous. New investments would improve safety standards.

It seems to me that we do not chose sides based on the rational arguments, but rather on our feelings concerning economic growth. I am despite what's going on in Japan at the moment, in favour of nuclear energy.
